Hot Springs, NC

Greetings from Hot Springs,
Wow it has been a while since we last wrote...and life is good as we just returned from soaking in the hot springs this town in named after. The wonderful warm weather returned after our previous cold nights, and we've had only 1 day of rain. We recently finished hiking through Great Smokey Mountain National Park which was nice particularly the last two days. There was a lot of walking on ridges with nice views and we've experienced several "balds" (mountains that are like a huge lawn on top). In the Smokey's, we slept in shelters instead of the tent because it is required. This provided a different experience with too much snoring and me wishing I had ear plugs ( I plan to pick them up in town today).
We are both feeling strong and good and I feel thankful to be making this walk. We had an interesting "hitch" back to the trail one day. Mom's and Dad's you may not want to read this. Ben, I and a friend Patrick rode in a open wood slat trailer laying down for ~25 min., it was cold and crazy, but fun none the less. It's difficult for me to sum up the past 10+ days so I'll try to post pictures.
We have now hiked ~270 miles since the day we began and have been hiking each day 14-17 miles. We're getting closer to Maine with each step. We've been enjoying the homemade goodies sent--thanks mom! We love the comments and it's great to know all of you are at home supporting us!
Love you guys!!

O.k. the computer is fighting with me and the pictures, maybe I'll try later.

SHIT, I can't believe I missed your call. You sound healthy, happy and just great on your message. So happy it's going well for you. WERE THERE SEATBELTS IN THAT DAMN TRAILER? Just kidding, glad someone was there to give you a lift. Kinda reminds me of what the bra said to the hat.........You go on ahead, I'll give these two a lift. Ha Ha Sorry but some things never change. Tell Ben he can thank "Trinny" for that one. We're just really happy for you both and glad things are going smoothly. How bout all those comments, even got grammy working the computer. How cool is that? Glad to know you are eating well and staying strong (never doubted you would). Breath deep, tread lightly, see everything, brush your teeth, howl at the moon and know you are loved.

Hi Ben and Amanda,
Evan gave us your blog address and we've been following your progress. It is amazing what you can accomplish when you are as committed as you two are. It is fun to read your posts and I'm sure your folks are releived to read them as well(I know when Evan was in Peru we waited for every post). Remember that there are many of us out there sharing in your excitement and can't wait to hear the details of this excitig chapter in your lives.

Love hearing from you. When it's raw out with rain and sleet like yesterday, I think of you, hoping you're not too cold. When I take a walk to go bird watching on a beautiful spring day,(2 miles compared to your 17 per day) I wonder where exactly you are.

Love your stories and your spirit. Open wood slat trailers and all.

As NASA said to the astronauts: Godspeed...

Best,

Hi Guys!
I hope you are having better weather than us here. We just had ANOTHER snow storm which dumped 12" or better. I'm not liking it too much. I'm ready to wear short sleeves. Kim can't wait to get into her bikini and flip flops! I hope everything is going well. Have you been able to get your mail stops? I'm glad you guys are having such a great time. Just wanted to say hi and let you know we are all thinking about you guys!!!

Take care,
Fle
